When Is a Tooth Extraction Needed?

Sometimes, saving a tooth isn’t possible. Here are common reasons you might need a tooth extraction:

  • Severe decay or infection: When a tooth is beyond repair and poses a risk to surrounding teeth or overall health.
  • Trauma or broken teeth: Following an injury where a tooth is fractured or displaced and cannot be restored.
  • Overcrowding: To create space before orthodontic treatment or due to misaligned teeth.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth: Wisdom teeth that are trapped under the gums and cause pain or alignment issues.

At Dalton Dental Studio, we always explore all restorative options first, recommending extractions only when necessary.

Types of Tooth Extractions We Offer

Simple Extractions

Simple extractions involve teeth that are visible and easily accessible, such as a severely decayed molar or a loose tooth. These procedures are straightforward and completed quickly with local anesthesia for your comfort.

Surgical Extractions

Surgical extractions are required for teeth that are impacted, broken below the gum line, or otherwise inaccessible. This is common with wisdom teeth or teeth fractured due to trauma. Surgical extractions at Dalton Dental Studio are handled with advanced techniques and equipment to ensure precision and minimal discomfort.

Our Tooth Extraction Process

Step 1: Comprehensive Evaluation

Your visit begins with a thorough examination, including digital X-rays or Cone Beam CT scans to assess the affected tooth and the surrounding area.

Step 2: Personalized Treatment Plan

We’ll discuss your diagnosis, explain all your options, and tailor a treatment plan to meet your needs. We’ll also discuss sedation options if you experience dental anxiety or require a complex procedure.

Step 3: The Procedure

  • Anesthesia: We use local anesthesia to numb the area and, if needed, offer sedation dentistry to help you relax.
  • Extraction: Dr. Dalton carefully removes the tooth using gentle, precise techniques.
  • Post-Procedure: We’ll provide clear instructions on how to care for your mouth after the extraction and offer advice on managing discomfort.

What to Expect After Your Extraction

Post-Procedure Care Instructions

Our team will walk you through everything you need to know for a smooth recovery:

  • Managing discomfort: We recommend pain relievers and cold compresses as needed.
  • Oral hygiene: Gently rinse with salt water, but avoid vigorous brushing or rinsing for the first 24 hours.
  • Diet: Stick to soft foods and avoid hot drinks and alcohol for several days.

What’s Normal During Recovery

Minor swelling and sensitivity are normal in the first few days. If symptoms worsen or you develop fever, excessive bleeding, or severe pain, contact our office immediately.

Follow-Up Appointments & Tooth Replacement Options

We offer follow-up visits to monitor healing. If you need to replace the extracted tooth, options include dental implants, bridges, or custom dentures, all available in-house for a seamless experience.

Patient Testimonials

See Why Our Patients Rate Us 5 Stars!

Not one to write reviews but felt compelled to leave one for Dalton's practice. Very nice modern place with new equipment which is always good but Dr. Dalton and team are really top notch. Just a great down to earth hands on approach with friendly but still professional communication. Zero pressure for expensive and unnecessary services (think mouth guards, whitening, etc.), just solid advice for dental health. First visit and will definitely make the Dalton team my long term dental provider going forward.

Cory J.

Dalton Dental Studio is the reason I can smile again. I had large cavities in my front teeth from poor care, and now they are like new. Dr. Dalton is extremely helpful and really cares about his patients. He helped me figure out just what had to be done and set up a payment plan even without insurance. I'm definitely going back.

Connor G.

The office is gorgeous and the people are so kind and professional- I’m so glad we have a personal dentist here in Hendersonville-and they accept lots of different types of insurance. I would totally recommend to anyone who wants a family doctor type of experience, especially if dental visits usually make you nervous. This practice is more personal!
